The Big Picture

Romans 12:19 “Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God…”

What is the big picture in your life as a follower of Christ? For most of us, if we had to be truthful, it is that we have a fruitful, joyful, and happy lives while here on Earth. We all want to feel content, joy, and love with those around us. I’m sure we all can make a long list of different things we wish for.

Scripture tells us that there is an overall picture that is something greater. It is that we walk on this Earth to serve as ambassadors of Christ so that we can bring a lost and dying world to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

If someone were to do you evil, how could you ever desire revenge if your goal is to lead that person to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior?

I really appreciate now why the scripture tells us never to approach those who do us evil with a response of revenge against them. Such an attitude is so contrary to the big picture.

Scripture tells us revenge is the Lord’s, but we are not to rejoice in that knowledge. We are to pray for them. Do them good in response to their evil.

Today, I’m sure there is somebody who has either done you evil, or will do you evil before the sun goes down. For you as a believer, remember the big picture of peace.

Realize your goal is not revenge. It is as Paul describes in Romans 12, to return kindness for evil. By doing so, it will be as though coals of fire are heaped upon them. Because you, as an ambassador, live in a peace that passes all understanding. A peace the world can never understand.

Thank God for the big picture.

Have a blessed day.
