1 Samuel 19:9-10 “But one day when Saul was sitting at home with spear in hand, the tormenting spirit from the Lord suddenly came upon him again. As David played his harp, Saul hurled his spear at David. But David dodged out of the way, and leaving the spear stuck in the wall, he fled and escaped into the night.”
Today has been a bad day. I spent so much time preparing for a particular Motion Hearing. I just kept saying, “God is going to bless me, and I’m going to win.” Then out of the blue today, I get the Judge’s ruling, and I didn’t win! I’m so upset. I was almost beside myself with feelings of despair.
I remembered the above passage about David. This may have been just one of severalepisodes of King Saul hurling javelins and Spears at David.
And just when David thought he was on top of the world, working in the palace, playing the harp, living the good life, in the middle of God’s blessings and prosperity, behold! The king starts to chuck spears at him!
There are always going to be days when you as a believer come across the times when you are dodging spear chuckers. That isn’t intended to point at particular people, but simply there are days when you don’t feel like God is hanging out with you.
God doesn’t promise us a path with flowers and gold. But he does promise His presence. He promises a path that will ultimately develop us to become Christlike on our journey.
So what do we do and how do we survive days when the world is chucking spears? We pray. We proclaim. We praise His holy name.
Keep moving forward with eyes fixed on the horizon. You will survive.
As for David? He became King.
Have a blessed day.
