John 16:33  “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

clark-trainerThis morning my wife showed me a video of a workout trainer who had an amazing physique. He was such a motivated and positive person, yet tragically, he passed away in a motorcycle accident. He left behind a wife and young child. His friends talked about how he had everything going on in his life in a very positive way. They were giving testimonials as to how great a person he was and how much he would be missed. This brought tears to one’s eyes thinking about how everything had been just ripped away.

I would like to tell you that when you become a Christian that everything is just perfect. That if you keep your eyes on God, read your Bible and pray, that sorrow and trouble will never come your way. But we all know that just isn’t true.

Jesus himself tells us that we will have many trials and sorrows here on earth. The difference for us, though, is that He also brings us peace. During the midst of the storm, during our trials and sorrows, we can remain in the perfect peace that Jesus Christ has brought us.

Christ tells us that He has overcome the world. I’ve always wondered exactly what that means. I know it doesn’t mean that that I will have no more trouble. But means that I am not without hope. Christ has created for us an anchor that holds us steadfast. Our peace comes from an understanding  that here on earth, we are just passing through. On the other side, there remains for us a place to spend eternity with Christ and our friends where there is no more sorrow, no more trials, and no more pain.

You can overcome in the perfect peace of Christ.

Have a blessed weekend.
