1 Peter 2:23 – “He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.”
We rent a vacation property on AirBnB. I’ve really loved the experience, but there have been some moments.
Sunday morning, we received a request from someone who wanted to rent Monday. We just couldn’t do it. So we rejected the request. Within a few minutes, we got a hateful response back because we didn’t accept the request. Man, were we angry.
We didn’t deserve that.
We wrote back and informed them that this was our house and we’ll do as we please.
As the day went on, it bugged me. No, it wasn’t their business. But even though we were insulted, we could have done better.
Jesus was confronted with insults, probably on a daily basis, but He didn’t retaliate. He never sought to get back at the hecklers of life.
As believers, we often only get one chance to respond to the world around us. In that same chapter 2 of 1 Peter, we’re described as representatives of Jesus Christ.
The truth is we never really understand the place where somebody comes from who strikes out at us verbally. That person may be personally or emotionally suffering, long before they got to us.
Let’s not miss the opportunity to get to minister, even if it means taking one for the team.
Have a blessed day!
