Security

Psalms 16:8 – “I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.”

When I was a boy, we rarely ever locked our doors. We would leave for church, and the door would remain unlocked. We would go away for the day and never close and lock the windows in our house.

Many of us remember times like these. There was a sense of security. We simply didn’t worry about somebody breaking into her home.

Alas, those days have gone.  Now it’s not unusual for all of us to have some form of security system built into our house to protect our belongings as well as our families. Most of us have become quite used to our security systems.

But I’m afraid that this has created a sense that we are not even safe in our own homes. It’s not unusual for many of our neighbors and friends to have concealed weapons permits and actually a carry guns on their person.

securityThe Bible gives us a great promise as believers. We have security in the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ is beside us all the time. We don’t have to remember to set a security alarm or put our gun in its holster.  We have the promise of our Lord that He is beside us and that we need not be shaken by the world around us.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you need to rip out your security system or leave your doors unlocked. But what it does mean is that in God, you can have a sense of security and calmness in the face of a dangerous world.

Today, take a deep breath and thank God for being by your side all the time.

Have a blessed day!
