James 5:16 – “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
I’ve pondered this scripture many times. I often question, “What is the earnest prayer of a righteous person?”
As believers, we are all righteous. The sacrifice of Christ has made us righteous before God if we’ve accepted Christ as our savior. So then why do so many not feel effective in their prayer life?
Fortunately there is more. The dictionary defines “earnest” as: “Having qualities of depth and firmness.”
Earnest implies having a purpose and being steadily and soberly eager in pursuing it.
I’ve known and observed many prayer warriors. Qualities of depth and intensity are key to their prayers. There is an expectation of God’s intervention. They are eager to approach God in prayer for their needs and the needs of others.
Truth be told, most believers, except for Sunday, probably spend less than 5 minutes a day in prayer.
Tomorrow, I challenge you to spend 10 minutes at the beginning of your day with Christ in prayer. Do nothing else before that happens. Then be eager to seek God first as the challenges of your day confront you. I’m convinced your day will be different. You can be that earnest prayer warrior who makes a difference.
Have a blessed day!
