Hebrews 12:1-2 – “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
On Monday, our nation will be celebrating Memorial Day. So often we forget and take for granted the liberties that we enjoy here in the United States. With almost every element of freedom comes a price. So often this price involves the giving of a life in order to preserve the liberties we enjoy.
Memorial Day’s roots date back to shortly after the Civil War when it was designated as Decoration Day, when the graves of fallen soldiers were decorated with flowers. Both the Union and Confederate troops observed some form of this holiday, and eventually it was united under the title of Memorial Day.
This weekend, I challenge you to take time to bring even a single flower to the graveside of one of our fallen veterans. What they have given you and I is of the ultimate sacrifice. That one would lay his life down for another to preserve freedom and liberty for all.
Have a blessed weekend!
